Detention and Details of the Criminal Scheme
On July 17, employees of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and the region, detained the market director and an official from the Tourism and Promotions Department of the Kyiv City State Administration. They are suspected of extorting and receiving a bribe from an entrepreneur who rented premises at the market to establish a food service establishment.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the official offered the businessman to resolve the issue of freeing access to his premises, which had been blocked by advertising structures installed by the Tourism Department, for 25 thousand US dollars. To implement this scheme, she involved the market director, who was to act as an intermediary and facilitate the transfer of property using his official position.
During the transfer of funds, both individuals were detained at the scene. Currently, preparations are underway to issue a notice of suspicion for committing a criminal offense under part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for receiving unlawful benefits by a public official.
