“According to preliminary information, the driver of the Volkswagen, moving in the first lane of the road, ignored the red traffic light and struck a female pedestrian, a 23-year-old servicewoman, who was crossing the road on a green light within the crosswalk,” the statement said.

After the accident, the perpetrator fled the scene but was quickly located and detained by the police. The injured servicewoman sustained multiple bodily injuries and was hospitalized.

Investigation and Accountability

During her detention, the woman attempted to mislead the police by claiming that her husband was driving and had fled after the accident. Law enforcement refuted this information and established that the detainee was in a state of severe alcohol intoxication – her blood alcohol level was 3.11 promille.

A criminal case has been opened regarding the traffic accident under part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment for violating traffic rules or operating vehicles while intoxicated. The sanction for this article includes imprisonment for up to three years, along with a ban on driving vehicles for a period of three to five years.
