A Robber Who Snatched Gold Jewelry from Passersby in Kyiv Arrested in Odesa

In just one day, the criminal seized gold jewelry worth over 110,000 hryvnias.

The pre-trial investigation has been completed in Kyiv regarding a 30-year-old resident of Odesa, who is suspected of a series of audacious robberies on the streets of the Podil district. According to the investigation materials, the man specifically traveled to the capital with the intent to commit crimes.

Crime Scheme and Police Actions

As established by investigators, the suspect was looking for victims, primarily elderly individuals, on the streets of Kyiv during the summer of 2023. The criminal would run up from behind and forcibly snatch gold chains or other jewelry from them, then immediately flee the scene.

“Throughout the day in the summer of 2023, the suspect was on the streets of the city searching for his victims, mostly elderly. Approaching from behind, the perpetrator would forcibly tear gold chains or other jewelry from them and then flee immediately,” the report states.

The robber’s victims included three individuals: a man and two women aged 48, 60, and 76. After carrying out a series of attacks, the criminal left Kyiv in an attempt to hide but was quickly apprehended by police at the entrance to Odesa.

During the investigation, law enforcement gathered compelling evidence confirming the suspect’s involvement in several episodes of repeated robbery. He is charged under part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery.

“During the pre-trial investigation, the investigators collected sufficient evidence of the man’s involvement in several episodes of repeated robbery — part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery. The indictment has been sent to court, and the suspect is in custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison,” the police reported.

Currently, the accused is in custody, and the case materials have already been submitted to the court. If his guilt is proven, the man faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.
