Kyiv Residents Protest Against Mandatory Pet Registration

Кияни виступили проти реєстрації домашніх улюбленців

Residents of Kyiv are actively opposing the new regulations regarding mandatory registration of pets in the city. They are collecting signatures and urging the city authorities to cancel the introduction of paid registration at the administrative service centers, considering this initiative unfair and unnecessary.

Petition and Arguments Against the New Regulation

The electronic petition posted on the Kyiv City Council’s website has received public support. The authors emphasize that most pets in the capital are well cared for and properly registered — they have a microchip, vaccinations, and a veterinary passport. At the same time, the signatories note that owners receive no support or compensation from the city, and now they have to pay 210 UAH for formal registration, which does not guarantee the safety of the animal or its return in case of loss.

They stress that the city authorities’ efforts should be directed towards addressing issues of animal cruelty, improving conditions for their care in shelters, and combating irresponsible ownership, rather than imposing additional burdens on responsible pet owners.
