Petition for Access to Restrooms in the Metro
An electronic petition demanding that passengers be granted access to restrooms at Kyiv metro stations has gathered over 6000 votes. This indicates a significant public demand for addressing this issue.
According to the petition’s author, although restrooms exist at every station of the capital’s metro, they remain closed to visitors and are intended exclusively for staff.
“The lack of access to a restroom in a public space is not only a violation of basic hygiene needs but also a matter of dignity. Such practices have long been changed in most European cities, where restrooms in the metro are the standard,” the petition states.
Suggestions and Next Steps
The author of the petition proposes to allow passengers to use the restrooms at metro stations for a modest fee of 5 to 10 hryvnias. This initiative aligns with European standards and could significantly enhance comfort for residents and visitors of the capital.
