U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff plan to visit Paris soon for talks with the French authorities. The main goal of the visit is to discuss possible ways to end the war in Ukraine and seek diplomatic solutions in challenging international conditions.

According to information provided by anonymous sources, during the visit, Rubio will meet with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. At the same time, Witkoff intends to speak with French President Emmanuel Macron. In addition to the issue of Ukraine, the agenda for the talks includes discussions on the situation in Iran and tariff policies regarding imports to the U.S.
Geopolitical Context and France’s Role
As noted by a government source commenting for Politico, one of the important aspects of the talks will be the continuation of efforts to provide security guarantees for Ukraine. Macron is reportedly leading a European initiative on this matter, including the deployment of military forces to monitor compliance with the terms of the peace agreement.
It is noted that Steve Witkoff has previously visited Russia several times for meetings with President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio led the U.S. delegation during negotiations with the Russian side in Riyadh, highlighting the high level of importance of these diplomatic contacts.
