The Frost-Free Period in Kyiv Has Ended After Over 200 Days

The frost-free period in Kyiv has officially ended, lasting for more than seven months.

According to the information from the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory, the capital recorded its first drop in temperature below zero this autumn. On November 16, thermometer readings fell to -1.2°C, marking the end of the frost-free period that began on April 12. The total duration of this period was 218 days.

“According to the combined hydrometeorological station in Kyiv, on November 16, the air temperature in the capital dropped to -1.2ºC for the first time this autumn, indicating the end of the frost-free period that lasted from April 12 for a total of 218 days,” the statement reads.

Historical Records of Frost-Free Periods in the Capital

According to climatologists, the shortest frost-free periods in Kyiv were recorded in 1902 and 1945, lasting only 144 days. Meanwhile, in 2023, the city experienced a record-long frost-free period of 232 days.
