The Sumy Regional Military Administration welcomed the new decision by the Ukrainian government, which will significantly ease the documentation of housing destruction for residents of border settlements. From now on, residents of destroyed villages will be able to receive compensation for damaged or destroyed housing without the need for a special commission to be dispatched to the site of the incident.
Remote Inspections Will Be Available to the Public
Given the daily shelling that continues in border areas, as well as the constant threat to life, specialists do not always have the opportunity to personally visit the sites of destruction. The procedure has now been simplified: to document losses, it is sufficient to provide photo and video materials, allowing inspections to be conducted remotely and significantly speeding up the process of receiving assistance.
“In many villages along the border, there are dozens of destroyed and damaged houses. Due to daily enemy shelling and the constant threat, specialists do not always have the opportunity to travel and document the destruction. Without this, people cannot receive compensation. Now inspections can be conducted remotely – based on photos and videos, without the mandatory presence of a commission on site.”
Authorities emphasize that the new approach allows residents to obtain the necessary certificate to participate in the “eRecovery” program, enabling them to purchase new housing in a safe region of the country.
Support for Internally Displaced Persons and New Compensation Procedures
At a meeting held on July 7, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a series of decisions to support internally displaced persons. In particular, this year the government allocated a record 15 billion hryvnias for assistance to IDP families whose homes were destroyed as a result of hostilities.
The possibility of remote inspections of housing in areas where government commissions cannot arrive due to danger has also been approved. This applies to both areas of active combat and temporarily occupied territories.
