The United Kingdom Strengthens Support for Ukraine and Expands Sanctions Against Russia

After a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

“It was great to speak with Volodymyr Zelensky. The United Kingdom is increasing pressure on Russia – those who finance Putin’s war machine should have nowhere to hide. We are always with Ukraine”

Increased Military Assistance and Coordination with Partners

The British government reported that Starmer and Zelensky reached an agreement on further developing military support for Ukraine. The leaders agreed on the importance of a strong Ukraine as a key factor in ensuring long-term peace in Europe. It was also decided to convene the next meeting of the ‘coalition of the willing’ – an international group of countries providing assistance to Ukraine – in the near future.

New Sanctions Against Russia: Increasing Pressure on the Aggressor’s Economy

President Zelensky emphasized that close coordination of sanctions policy among all G7 countries is necessary to end the Russian war. In particular, this concerns restrictions aimed at the energy sector, banking sector, shadow fleet, and military-industrial complex of Russia.

On June 17, the United Kingdom expanded its sanctions list, adding six legal entities and four individuals associated with Russia. Among those listed are Yuriy and Yegor Karasyov, who have ties to the Russian banking sector. Companies that fell under the new sanctions due to their “strategic significance for the Russian government” include the Metallurg company and Orion Star Group.
