Residents of Kyiv have started a petition for the establishment of a monument to Symon Petliura

In Kyiv, citizens have approached the city authorities with an initiative to erect a monument to the prominent Ukrainian political, military, and state figure Symon Petliura. He was the head of the Directory of the Ukrainian People’s Republic from 1919 to 1920 and also held the position of Chief Otaman of the army and navy of the UPR.

The relevant electronic petition has already been posted on the official website of the Kyiv City Council. The initiators are calling on Kyiv residents to support this proposal in order to honor Petliura’s contribution to Ukraine’s struggle for independence.
The Significance of Symon Petliura for Ukraine’s History
The authors of the initiative emphasize that Symon Petliura was a key figure in the national liberation struggle against the Russian Empire and Soviet power. He made a significant contribution to the establishment of Ukrainian statehood and spent a considerable part of his life in the capital.
