Proposal to Lower the Price of Russian Oil
During his address, Zelensky urged G7 partners to collaborate with the United States to implement a strict price cap on Russian oil. According to him, a price of $45 per barrel is currently being considered, but experts believe an effective price would be $30. The President highlighted that joint actions would make the sanctions more painful for the Russian economy and contribute to ending the war.
“I urge you to work with the United States to implement a strict price cap on Russian oil. The proposed price is currently $45 per barrel, but many experts agree that the truly effective level is $30. Together we must make this painful for Russia. The 18th package of EU sanctions must also hit Russian energy and banks,” said the head of the Ukrainian state.
The Role of the U.S. and President Trump in Ending the War
Zelensky appealed to G7 leaders to continue urging U.S. President Donald Trump to use his influence to end the war and compel Russian leader Vladimir Putin to stop the aggression. The Ukrainian President reminded that it was the U.S. administration and Donald Trump who initiated the ceasefire, the restoration of diplomatic contacts, and negotiations, but these efforts were blocked by Russia.
Additionally, in June, Zelensky stated that he intended to hold talks with Donald Trump during his visit to Canada regarding the purchase of weapons from the United States. However, the American president left the summit early due to the need to return to Washington in light of the escalating situation in the Middle East.
