The administration of US President Donald Trump has expressed its intention to use existing leverage over the parties involved in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt during a briefing.

“The President (Donald Trump) has made it quite clear that he is consistently frustrated with both sides of this conflict, and he wants the fighting to stop. He wants the war to end. We believe we have leverage in the negotiations for a peace agreement, and we intend to use that leverage,” the spokesperson noted.
The Importance of Diplomatic Efforts
According to Levitt, the arrival of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Russia for talks with President Vladimir Putin is a key step in the diplomatic process aimed at ending the war and reaching a final peace treaty.
On April 11, Witkoff spent more than four hours in negotiations with Putin, which took place at the presidential library in St. Petersburg. Earlier, the White House confirmed Witkoff’s visit, emphasizing that it is part of efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine and establishing a peace agreement.
Discussion on the Ukrainian Settlement
Russian President spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reported that during the meeting, the parties would discuss “various aspects of the Ukrainian settlement.” The Kremlin intends to convey “the main elements of Russia’s position and concerns” directly to Donald Trump.
