Trump prepares to talk with Putin
According to the US president, individual European politicians will arrive in the country on Monday and Tuesday in succession. Trump did not specify which countries these leaders would represent, but assured that the issue of resolving the conflict in Ukraine will be one of the key items on the agenda.
“Certain European leaders will arrive in our country on Monday and Tuesday individually. We will sort this out,” he stated, without specifying which European politicians would be coming to the US.
Additionally, the US president announced that he intends to have a conversation with the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, in the near future. He expressed hope that his diplomatic efforts would contribute to ending the war.
Negotiations, sanctions, and Washington’s position
Donald Trump emphasized that both he and First Lady Melania Trump are deeply disappointed that the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, despite efforts to persuade the parties to agree to peace talks. According to him, the differences between Ukraine and Russia remain significant—particularly regarding territorial issues and security guarantees after the cessation of hostilities.
Trump reiterated that he is ready to move to the second stage of sanctions against Russia if it would facilitate a peaceful resolution. At the same time, the White House had previously explained the delay in tightening sanctions due to concerns that such actions could lead to Russia withdrawing from the negotiation process, which, in turn, could prolong the war indefinitely.
The US president stressed the need for compromise between Ukraine and Russia to achieve peace in the region. At the same time, he acknowledged that the war, which he expected to end as soon as possible, has proven to be the most difficult to resolve precisely because of Putin’s position.
