Ukraine, together with the European Union and 36 countries worldwide, has called on the Russian Federation to immediately cease hostilities against the Ukrainian people and to initiate meaningful dialogue for achieving peace. The statement was made during a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Statement of the International Community on Russia’s War Against Ukraine

The signatories of the statement emphasized that the ongoing full-scale invasion by Russia is a gross violation of the UN Charter and has been ongoing for the fourth year, causing significant suffering to the civilian population and destabilizing the global order. They stressed the need for unity within the international community to counter the crimes of the aggressor.

“We stand here together, as Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine continues to inflict human suffering and destabilize global peace. This illegal, unprovoked, and unjustified full-scale invasion, now in its fourth year, is a blatant violation of the UN Charter. The international community must remain united in addressing these serious violations. For this reason, we stand together in our solidarity and jointly call on the Russian Federation to stop the killings and begin meaningful negotiations with Ukraine,” the statement reads.

The document also notes that deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure constitute war crimes. The international community demands that Russia immediately cease indiscriminate rocket attacks and the use of drones against Ukrainian cities and towns.

Escalation of Russian Attacks and Diplomatic Negotiations

Despite the statement made, Russian forces continue to carry out attacks on Ukrainian regions. In the Zaporizhzhia region, explosions were heard, and Kharkiv experienced a massive drone attack, resulting in casualties among the civilian population.

Concurrently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks in New York with US President Donald Trump, during which new ideas for advancing peace were discussed. The details of these proposals have not yet been disclosed, but the head of state expressed hope for quick results from these initiatives.

Donald Trump also met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during which he emphasized issues related to reducing Russia’s revenue from fossil fuel exports and supporting Ukraine in its fight against aggression.

After the negotiations, Donald Trump stated on social media that Ukraine, with the support of the EU, has every chance of restoring its territorial integrity within the borders that existed before the war began. According to him, returning to the borders of 2014 is a realistic scenario, and this is the first time such a position has been publicly stated by him since his inauguration earlier this year.
