Ukraine Ready to Provide Support in Resolving the Situation with the Strait of Hormuz

Україна наразі не отримувала запит на допомогу в розблокуванні Ормузької протоки

Ukraine remains open to discussing opportunities for assistance in resolving the situation around the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during an interview, noting that Kyiv is ready to share its own experience and knowledge with international partners if a relevant request is made.

Ukraine’s Experience and Proposals Regarding the Strait of Hormuz

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, there is currently no state that could independently lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The President drew parallels with the situation in the Black Sea, where Ukraine managed to organize a grain corridor despite attempts by the Russian Federation to block food exports. Zelensky emphasized that the current issue pertains to energy, and only joint international actions can yield results.

“Only joint steps can yield results. Ukraine has experience in launching a grain corridor in the Black Sea despite Russia’s attempts to block the supply of food and other goods. The situation is now similar, but it concerns energy.”

Ukraine has proposed to consider diplomatic efforts and measures to open the Strait of Hormuz simultaneously, as this could be beneficial for all parties involved in the conflict. The President also outlined an alternative solution — establishing unilateral control over the strait using interceptor drones, military convoys, an integrated electronic warfare network, and other modern technologies, similar to what was done with the Black Sea grain corridor.

International Cooperation and the Situation in the Region

Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready to provide support if partners reach out, but so far, no such requests have been received. Kyiv is sharing its knowledge and experience, particularly in drone defense, with countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Jordan.

Following the start of the military operation by the US and Israel on February 28, Iran effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, which is a strategically important route for transporting oil from the Persian Gulf countries to global markets. The blockage of ship movement has become one of the main reasons for the sharp rise in energy prices worldwide.

The international community is currently seeking ways to resolve this crisis. According to information released in the media, including the Financial Times, Donald Trump has mentioned the possibility of suspending arms supplies to Ukraine to encourage European partners to join a coalition to open the Strait of Hormuz.
