Ukraine Receives Invitation to NATO Summit in The Hague: Zelensky’s Participation Still in Question

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte officially confirmed that Ukraine has received an invitation to the North Atlantic Alliance summit, which will take place in The Hague. He made this statement in Brussels on June 4, ahead of the NATO defense ministers’ meeting and the Ukraine-NATO Council.

Invitation to the Summit and Uncertainty Regarding Zelensky’s Participation

Mark Rutte emphasized that Ukraine is included in the list of invitees for the upcoming summit; however, he did not provide details regarding the possible personal attendance of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at this event. In response to direct questions from journalists about Zelensky’s participation, he stated that the summit agenda will be published soon, and then more specifics will emerge.

“I have invited Ukraine to the summit. We will publish the agenda with more detailed information as soon as possible,” Rutte said in Brussels on June 4, before the NATO defense ministers’ meeting and the Ukraine-NATO Council, which will take place tomorrow.

The Format of Ukraine’s Participation at the Summit Remains Uncertain

Earlier, on June 2, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine had received an official invitation to participate in the NATO summit, which will be held on June 24-25 in The Hague. At the same time, as noted by Alliance representatives, the format of Ukraine’s delegation participation and the extent of its role during discussions and in the final communiqué of the summit remain unspecified at this time.

It is expected that the organizers will soon publish a detailed program of the event, which will answer questions regarding the composition of the Ukrainian delegation and the key issues that will be addressed during the summit.
