Main Objectives of the New Management

According to Chernohorenko, the new management unit is intended to be an “integrator” of military solutions in space. It is planned as a platform to unite state and private companies, as well as scientists in the space sector, for close collaboration with the Ukrainian military.

“We have a law on space activities that states that the Ministry of Defense must formulate policy in the military space sector. This is not only about procuring innovative solutions from engineers, it is not just about creating a community for the best solutions to come to Ukraine, but also about establishing space forces,” Chernohorenko stated.

Future Plans

She also reported that the Ministry of Defense intends to become the main customer of space technology and software for the Armed Forces. “We want all innovators, all engineers who are thinking about how to develop space technologies to know the contacts, understand the digital entry points to interact with us (the Ministry of Defense). The management unit serves as a coordination center, a center for generating meanings, and a center for generating policies,” she added.

Furthermore, by 2030, Ukraine plans to implement national satellites for defense purposes, as well as a system for air alert notifications and space control.
