The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has introduced a digital system for distributing drones among military units, which will significantly speed up the supply of drones to the front lines. This was announced by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who noted that the new system will provide the military with modern means of engagement much more effectively than before.
Advantages of Digital Logistics for the Armed Forces
Previously, the distribution of unmanned aerial vehicles was done manually, leading to a number of logistical difficulties: duplicate requests, delays during issuance, errors due to human factors, and outdated data. Military units could not clearly plan operations due to a lack of information about the timing of drone deliveries.
“Duplicate requests, slow issuance, errors due to human factors, outdated data. The military could not plan operations without a clear understanding of the timing for receiving UAVs.”
Now the process of distributing UAVs has become fully automated. According to Fedorov, the time taken for a drone from the moment it arrives at the warehouse to its receipt by the unit has been reduced by 2–3 times — it now takes approximately one day.
Automation Based on SAP and Supply Control
The automatic distribution system operates on the SAP platform and covers the entire supply chain — from procurement to the transfer of drones to military units. Automation allows:
- to track unit requests in real-time
- to have up-to-date data on the availability of drones in warehouses
- to generate issuance orders in a matter of minutes
- to plan supplies without delays and without duplicate requests
According to the minister, this ensures fast supply and precise planning of operations for the military, and for the state — transparent control over the movement and distribution of drones.
On January 14, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, outlining the tasks for the new head of the ministry, emphasized the importance of implementing a basic level of drone supply for combat brigades.
