Zelensky Introduced Sanctions Against Andriy Bohdan and Four Others

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree implementing a new package of sanctions against five individuals, including the former head of the President’s Office, Andriy Bohdan. According to information from the official document, the restrictive measures concern individuals whose actions pose a threat to national interests, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Who is Affected by the Sanctions

The following individuals are under sanctions:

  • Andriy Bohdan — a Ukrainian lawyer who headed the President’s Office from 2019 to February 2020, and was also the personal lawyer of oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi and a legal advisor to Zelensky’s team during the 2019 presidential campaign.
  • Bohdan Pukish — a Ukrainian businessman known as an associate and partner of the sanctioned Viktor Medvedchuk.
  • Alan Kiryukhin — a Russian businessman, a key manager of the payment system A7A5, which is used to circumvent international sanctions.
  • Stanislav Pozdnyakov — an official and propagandist of Olympic sports in Russia.
  • Mykhailo Mamiashvili — also an official-propagandist of Olympic sports in Russia.

Nature of Restrictions and Duration of Sanctions

According to the decree, a number of restrictive measures have been applied to the specified individuals. These include the deprivation of state awards of Ukraine, asset blocking, prohibition of trade operations, prevention of capital withdrawal abroad, termination or suspension of licenses and other permits, as well as a ban on participation in the privatization or lease of state property.

“Restrictive measures include, in particular: deprivation of state awards of Ukraine, asset blocking, cessation of trade operations, prevention of capital withdrawal outside Ukraine, termination or suspension of licenses and other permits, and prohibition of participation in the privatization and lease of state property,” the law states.

The duration of the sanctions is 10 years, except for the indefinite deprivation of state awards of Ukraine.

Andriy Bohdan held the position of head of the President’s Office for less than a year: in February 2020, Zelensky dismissed him, and Andriy Yermak was appointed in his place.
