Zelensky Supports Trump’s Thesis on the Need for Offensive Actions to Win in Ukraine

Зеленський погодився з Трампом, що вести війну для захисту України треба «не тільки в обороні»

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to ending the war, combining military and diplomatic pressure on Russia. He stated this during his evening address, highlighting that bilateral and trilateral formats of negotiations involving the United States remain key.

Signals from Russia and Intensification of Attacks

Zelensky noted that Russia is effectively avoiding the necessity of direct negotiations and shows no desire to end the war. According to the president, the Russian Federation continues to launch massive strikes on Ukrainian territory, including on civilian objects and even on an American enterprise. Additionally, he pointed out incidents involving the fall of Russian drones in Poland and Lithuania, which, in the president’s opinion, indicate the audacity of Russian military actions.

“Right now, the signals from Russia are frankly indecent. They are trying to evade the necessity of holding a meeting. They do not want to end this war. They continue massive attacks against Ukraine and very fierce assaults on the front. And they are also launching missiles at an American enterprise – just like many of our other completely civilian targets,” the head of state stated.

Not Just Defense, but Offensive Actions

Zelensky emphasized that diplomatic initiatives are ongoing, and Ukraine is doing everything possible to protect the state and its citizens. He agreed with U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement about the necessity of not limiting oneself to defense but also employing counteroffensive actions for effective national defense. At the same time, Ukraine does not reduce its efforts on the diplomatic front, seeking support among partners for negotiations that could bring about peace.

Advisors on national security are working on organizing the negotiation process, while military command is focused on forming the military component of security guarantees for Ukraine. Zelensky also announced the activation of international diplomacy to obtain new steps of support from partners.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the necessity for Ukraine’s capability for counterattacks, noting that it is impossible to win a war without offensive actions against the aggressor country.
