On the evening of April 7, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tikhiy, confirmed that all territories of Ukraine will remain under Ukrainian sovereignty. This statement was a response to comments made by American Congresswoman of Ukrainian descent, Victoria Spartz.

“Unlike Victoria, all our land has always been and will always remain Ukrainian”
Spartz’s statements have raised concerns, as she, being a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, expressed doubts about how Ukraine can continue to demand the preservation of its territories, stating: “if they were winning the war, it would be a completely different matter.”
Interestingly, Victoria Spartz, born in Ukraine, was initially a strong supporter of U.S. assistance to Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia. However, in 2024, she voted against a $61 billion aid package, accusing the Ukrainian government of alleged corruption without providing any evidence for her claims.
Victoria Spartz (maiden name Kulheyko), who was born in Nosivka in the Chernihiv region in 1978, lived in Ukraine until 2000. After marrying Jason Spartz, she moved to the U.S. and has been a U.S. citizen since 2006. In November 2020, after winning the election in Indiana, she became the first ethnically Ukrainian person to hold a seat in the U.S. Congress.
