According to the woman, the incident occurred on May 20, when hundreds of insects landed on the asphalt and flew in the air near the main office of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv.

“Nearby was the Main Office of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv, I went in and asked the guard for tape to cordon off the area. Employees of the emergency service came out to help me. Among them was a staff member who has a beehive and knows how to handle bees. An artist who lives nearby also joined us,”

How the Bees Were Rescued

The proactive team of emergency service workers and concerned passersby quickly reacted. They offered the bees temporary shelter in the form of a box that they prepared for their safe relocation. According to witnesses, a regular banana box with holes and openings was used to create the “hive,” and the walls were coated with beeswax to attract the insects to their new shelter.

As Kateryna Polianska explained, they also smeared the walls of the box with honey to entice the bees and encourage them to enter. As a result, almost the entire swarm flew into the box within forty minutes, allowing the team to safely transport it to a secure location.

A local resident with a beehive offered to take the bees in the future, so it was decided to temporarily relocate them to a park. According to the author of the post, “the bees did not sting any person”, and the process was carried out very carefully and safely for all participants.

This incident serves as another example of how concerned citizens and professionals can work together to save the lives of insects and prevent their harm in urban environments.
