US Calls for End to Russia’s War Against Ukraine by July 4, 2026

США прагнуть закінчити війну Росії та України до свого Дня незалежності

The US is actively promoting the idea of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia by July 4, 2026, when the country will celebrate its 250th anniversary of independence. This has been reported by sources among representatives of European states and NATO.

US Position and Reactions

According to interlocutors, there is currently no evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to agree to a peace agreement. The White House has refrained from commenting on this initiative.

In an interview with an American television channel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky explained that former US President Donald Trump insists on signing simultaneous peace agreements between Kyiv and Moscow, as well as between Ukraine, the US, and European countries, which would include security guarantees for Ukraine. According to Zelensky, the signing should take place at a ceremonial event.

“Why by this summer? We understand that their internal issues in America have an impact and will likely become even more relevant for them,” he noted, referring to the midterm elections in November 2026.

Views of European Diplomats

Earlier, the Ukrainian president also reported that the US is proposing to end the war by the beginning of summer, which is likely related to the significance of domestic political events in the United States, particularly the upcoming elections in the fall of 2026.

European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell emphasized this week that it is Russia that must make compromises to achieve peace, not Ukraine. He also expressed doubt about the possibility of a quick breakthrough in negotiations due to the inflexibility of the Russian side on key political issues.
