Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands to Fund Weapons Purchases for Ukraine in the USA

Для України на велику суму придбають зброю в США

Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands are allocating over one billion US dollars for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.

This is reported by Kyiv24

This was announced by US State Department spokesperson Tammi Bruce, emphasizing the significant support for Ukraine from the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands. As part of the new aid tranche, Kyiv will receive modern types of weapons, including missiles for the Patriot air defense system.

NATO Initiative and the Position of Participating Countries

The funding is part of the NATO initiative Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). In particular, the Netherlands has already prepared a package for Ukraine, which includes components and missiles for the Patriot system. According to international agencies, the alliance aims to raise a total of up to 10 billion US dollars for weapons purchases for Ukraine. However, several NATO countries have yet to agree to join this program.

Finland’s Separate Position

Finland has currently decided not to participate in the new support mechanism, which involves purchasing weapons for Ukraine specifically from the United States. Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen explained that the country’s government is focused on a different support program aimed at procuring products from its own manufacturers.

“We have allocated our resources to an internal industrial program, under which we are ordering products for Ukraine from our companies across Finland,” the defense chief explained.

Thus, the new funding mechanism will allow Ukraine to receive additional resources to strengthen its defense capabilities, while individual countries continue to provide support through alternative means.
