Over the past week, there has been a noticeable decline in COVID-19 cases in Kyiv. According to data from the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of new COVID-19 cases in the capital has decreased by 17.9% compared to the previous week.

Statistics on Illness and Hospitalizations

From September 15 to 21, 2025, 1,080 residents of Kyiv contracted COVID-19, including 288 children. In comparison, the previous week saw 1,315 cases. A significant portion of the infected are individuals aged 30 to 64 years.

The number of hospitalizations has also decreased: last week, 89 patients were admitted to hospitals with a COVID-19 diagnosis, of which 35 were children. In comparison, 271 people were hospitalized the previous week. Seven adult patients were in the intensive care unit.

Detection of the New Strain Stratus

“Overall, the incidence rate in 2025 is 7.9% lower than the figures for the same period in 2024. At the same time, since July, cases of the new strain Stratus (XFG) have been recorded in Kyiv, confirmed by laboratory tests,” the Center reported.

Doctors are drawing the attention of Kyiv residents to the fact that since July 2025, cases of the new strain Stratus (XFG) have already been registered in the city. Laboratory studies have confirmed the presence of this strain. Experts urge capital residents to be cautious and adhere to recommended preventive measures.
