Academic institutions in Kyiv and the Kyiv region have suffered significant damage due to missile attacks and strikes from Shahed drones.
Property Losses in the Hundreds of Millions of UAH
According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of material damage incurred by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression since 2022 in Kyiv and the surrounding area reaches 270 million UAH.
The most severe destruction has affected roof and ceiling structures, building facades, walls, windows and doors, as well as electrical and water supply systems, sewage, ventilation ducts, and elevator equipment. As a result of the shelling, nearly 2,300 window and door units, a power transformer, heating systems, and other elements necessary for the operation of scientific institutions were destroyed or damaged. Some premises were affected by fires.
In total, over 350 movable and immovable property objects in 67 institutions and organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have suffered damage and destruction across Ukraine.
Scale of Destruction of Scientific Infrastructure
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the material base of academic institutions has been significantly affected. In total, over 350 property objects belonging to 67 institutions and organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have experienced destruction or damage. This includes both movable and immovable property, as well as life support systems of the institutions. Restoring these objects will require significant financial resources and time.
