The law enforcement agencies of Spain have detained the former first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, reports the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). Information about the detention appeared on May 14, but the name of the detainee has not been disclosed by the press service. The circumstances are similar to those of Oleg Hladkovskyi.

NABU confirms that the former official previously held the position of head of the interagency commission on defense industry issues and has been on international wanted list since June 2024. The question of his extradition to Ukraine is currently being resolved.
Circumstances of the Detention and Charges
«The detainee, along with the former deputy minister of defense and the director of the Ministry of Defense department, is accused of organizing the procurement of all-terrain trucks within the state defense order at inflated prices, causing losses to the state of over 17 million hryvnias,» reports NABU.
Last year, Radio Free Europe established that the Spanish firm Bilderberg Consulting Financiero, owned by one of Hladkovskyi’s sons – Mykhailo – purchased a plot of land in the elite settlement of La Zagaleta on the southern coast of Spain in April 2022. According to satellite images, active construction of a villa has been underway on this territory since the summer of 2022.
In April 2024, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported that the High Anti-Corruption Court had declared the former first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council wanted. According to the data, Oleg Hladkovskyi had been on the wanted list since June 2024 and was detained by Spanish law enforcement officers.
History of Offenses and Political Aspect
In 2019, NABU detained Hladkovskyi in October on suspicion of abuse of power and providing false information in his declarations. He called this case «politically motivated persecution».
The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine placed him in custody for 60 days with a bail of 10.5 million hryvnias. After posting bail, Hladkovskyi was released from pre-trial detention. In May 2020, the prosecutor’s office reported a change in the charges and an increase in the amount of damages to over 17 million hryvnias. In July 2021, his case was referred to court.
In 2021, the Bogdan Corporation reported that Hladkovskyi intended to appeal the charges in the European Court of Human Rights, calling them «political persecution».
