Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in collaboration with colleagues from the Foreign Intelligence Service and Polish law enforcement, carried out a large-scale international special operation on the territory of the European Union. For the first time since the full-scale invasion, a Russian agent who was working against our state in the media sector was detained in Ukraine at the request of the SBU.
This is reported by Kyiv24
According to information from the SBU, the detainee turned out to be a “political expert” from a media group associated with Viktor Medvedchuk — a person suspected of treason. This criminal, recruited by Russian special services, actively discredited Ukraine on the international stage and attempted to undermine stability in partner countries.
Activities of the Detainee
In 2022, he moved to Russia, where he became one of the key ideologists of the Kremlin’s projects “Another Ukraine” and “Voice of Europe.” Throughout 2023, the man actively participated in Vladimir Solovyov’s talk shows, supporting Russian aggression and spreading fake news about the situation in Ukraine. He also organized street actions in the EU, calling for a reduction in international aid to Ukraine.
Furthermore, the detainee publicly called for preparing terrorist acts in Ukraine, using his Telegram channel to disseminate data collected by Russian special services.
Special Operation and Consequences
According to the case materials, the SBU informed the detainee of suspicion for justifying Russian aggression and collaborating activities. His name became known — it is Kirill Molchanov, who was invited to Germany for the presentation of an international grant. It seems that he could not resist the temptation of earning money, which led to his detention.
“Members of the Bundestag, in gratitude for Molchanov’s human rights activities, invited him to Berlin for the award and grant for systematic work in the field of human rights protection.”
Molchanov, a native of Kyiv, graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in political science. He actively participated in media projects aimed at promoting pro-Russian narratives and discrediting Ukrainian patriotic forces.
Today, Viktor Medvedchuk, accused of treason, has created a “political movement” called “Another Ukraine” in Russia, which includes fugitives who have escaped punishment in Ukraine. It is likely that Ukrainian special services will continue to conduct special operations to detain traitors who are abroad.
