The elements caused widespread flooding in the capital
This is reported by Kyiv24
In the evening, certain areas of Kyiv were affected by a heavy downpour, which quickly led to the flooding of city streets. The city’s drainage system once again failed to cope with the torrents of water, causing a significant portion of the rainfall to overflow through manhole covers, turning the streets into genuine rivers.
Drainage Issues and Residents’ Reactions
According to eyewitnesses, the main cause of the extensive flooding was the clogging of water intake collectors and their insufficient capacity. In some places, the water level rose so high that it completely covered sidewalks and roadways.
“This evening, certain areas of the capital were hit by a powerful downpour. However, as before, the water intake collectors could not handle the volume of water. As a result, it flowed through the streets in turbulent streams. In some places, it even burst forth from underground through manhole covers. This again indicates the clogging of the water intake system and its low capacity as a result.”
Residents of Kyiv reacted to the bad weather with humor, filming videos and posting footage of the storm and its aftermath on social media. At many stops, people were forced to remain in place as the sidewalks were submerged, while several trolleybuses and cars got stuck in flooded areas.
Transport Delays and Rescue Methods
In some districts, public transport passengers were left stranded at stops, waiting for the weather to improve. Kyiv residents found various ways to protect themselves from the rain and get home, using makeshift means to shield themselves from the water.
Eyewitnesses recorded videos showing how the storm engulfed the city, vividly illustrating the scale of the problems with urban infrastructure during heavy rainfall.
