In Kyiv, one of the oldest structures on Reitarska Street – the wing of the well-known “Courtyard with Crows” – is under threat. The building’s owners have presented a project that involves adding a modern extension, which could significantly alter the appearance of this historical monument.
Approval Procedure and Department’s Position
According to heritage conservationist Dmytro Perov, the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration has already sent the extension project for further approval to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
“The project for the extension of the historic wing at the ‘Courtyard with Crows’ has been sent by the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration for further approval to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine,” Perov wrote.
It is worth noting that a fire occurred in this building on October 5. From October 15 to 22, 2025, the owners conducted studies that confirmed the emergency condition of the roof and several internal structures of the building.

Discussion on the Building’s Status
On October 23, the owners presented a renovation project with a modern extension for the Department’s consideration. As Dmytro Perov reported, the department’s director, Marina Soloviova, emphasized that she does not have the authority to reject the project, as this building does not have the status of a heritage site.
Despite this, the public and activists stress that the two-story building is one of the oldest on Reitarska Street and still retains its historical authenticity. The materials from the historical research confirm the value of the object for the urban environment.
