Key Topics of the European Political Community Summit in Yerevan: Security, Support for Ukraine and New Participants

Стало відомо, про що йтиметься на саміті Європейської політичної спільноти в Єревані

On May 4, the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, will host the European Political Community summit, which will gather 48 leaders of states and governments. Among the invitees is the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. This year’s summit will be special as, for the first time, a country not located on the European continent will join the discussions — the participation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected.

Key Highlights of the Agenda

The main focus of the summit will be on security and prosperity in Europe. As noted by one of the representatives of the European Union, the format of the meeting allows for informal yet substantive discussions on the challenges facing the region. Holding the event in the South Caucasus for the first time has symbolic significance, as it reflects Armenia’s new geopolitical course and provides an opportunity to discuss the prospects for a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

“The summit will feature informal yet substantive discussions on security and prosperity in Europe… For the first time, the summit is taking place in the South Caucasus – this is symbolic and underscores Armenia’s geopolitical course, as well as the opportunity to celebrate a peace agreement with Azerbaijan. In addition to supporting Ukraine, significant attention will be paid to the crisis in the Middle East as part of a broader vision of European security,” the official stated.

Support for Ukraine and Countering Hybrid Threats

One of the main topics will remain support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russian aggression. Additionally, participants will discuss ways to counter foreign information manipulation, especially during election periods. The issue of the resilience of critical infrastructure to hybrid threats will be addressed in a separate block of discussions, which will include, among others, Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Another important part of the agenda will be enhancing resilience to global crises — wars, pandemics, and migration challenges. Leaders plan to consider ways to reduce energy dependence on imports, which has become particularly relevant in light of the ongoing war in the Middle East.

It is worth noting that the previous summit of the European Political Community took place in October 2025 in Copenhagen.
