The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office demands that the city authorities address violations regarding the development of waterfronts

The capital’s prosecutor has officially requested Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko to immediately eliminate illegal structures erected along the city’s waterways. The office emphasized the need to protect ecologically valuable areas and ensure their accessibility for citizens.
Legal Violations Due to Illegal Construction
According to the prosecutor’s office, in several parks and along the banks of Kyiv’s rivers, entrepreneurs have illegally constructed permanent buildings without the necessary permits. Some plots of land have been unlawfully fenced off, restricting access for residents, and commercial activities are being conducted on the seized territories.
“The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office has sent an official letter to the Mayor of Kyiv – Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Vitali Klitschko regarding the need to take measures to protect the environment, ensure proper maintenance of areas and facilities that have ecological value,” the statement reads.
Demands on City Authorities and Entrepreneurs
The prosecutor’s office stressed that the placement of any commercial facilities on the territories of the nature reserve fund and along waterways is prohibited by Ukrainian law. Such lands belong to the community of the city and must remain open for public use, not be transferred into private ownership or use.
Control over compliance with these regulations, detection of violations, and their rectification is the responsibility of the city authorities. At the same time, representatives of the prosecutor’s office warned that if local authorities remain inactive, appropriate measures will be taken by law enforcement agencies.
It was also emphasized that business owners who violate the law and occupy land illegally have the opportunity to rectify the violations themselves and voluntarily vacate the unlawfully occupied territories.
