Kyiv City Council Did Not Approve Funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine Due to Absence of the Mayor’s Faction Deputies

«УДАР» не прийшов: Київрада не змогла виділити кошти на ЗСУ через відсутність депутатів

The budget committee meeting of the Kyiv City Council, scheduled for May 27, did not take place due to the absence of deputies from the “UDAR” faction. This meeting was intended to discuss the allocation of funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and support for the most vulnerable residents of the capital.

Reasons for the Meeting’s Cancellation and the Committee Chair’s Position

The cancellation of the meeting was reported by the chair of the budget committee, Andriy Vitrenko, who leads the “Servant of the People” faction in the Kyiv City Council. According to him, the lack of a quorum prevented the discussion and approval of important decisions for the city and the military. Vitrenko emphasized that such a situation is not unprecedented. In particular, he noted that previously, the former secretary of the Kyiv City Council refused to sign an order regarding assistance to the military because the requests were submitted by deputies from another faction.

“Initially, the former secretary of the Kyiv City Council refuses to sign an order for the allocation of assistance to the military solely because the requests were submitted by deputies from our faction. Then, on the day of national mourning, top officials of the Kyiv City State Administration hold festive banquets. And finally, deputies from the mayor’s faction, Klitschko, simply do not attend the budget committee meeting where critically important issues were to be discussed: funding for the Armed Forces and support for the most vulnerable residents of the capital,” he stated.

Call to the Mayor of Kyiv

The committee chair urged the city mayor, Vitali Klitschko, to urgently respond to the situation and influence the deputies of his faction. He emphasized that ignoring meetings is a manifestation of irresponsibility and contempt for the defenders of the country, who risk their lives daily for the safety of citizens. Vitrenko described such behavior as political looting and called on the mayor to take measures regarding discipline within the faction.
