Lake Golube: Ecological Value and Threat of Disappearance

Lake “Golube” is considered a unique natural object within the capital. Local residents emphasize its important ecological, recreational, and educational role. The water body is home to turtles, various species of fish, ducks, coots, and rare multicolored water lilies. However, recently the lake has been gradually drying up, leading to the death of the plants and animals that inhabit it.

“Residents of the Vynogradar neighborhood are calling on the city authorities to take urgent measures to preserve Lake ‘Golube,’ located in the courtyards of buildings on European Union Avenue.”

Proposals for Preserving the Water Body

Kyiv residents have registered an electronic petition on the Kyiv City Council’s website, emphasizing the need for immediate action. Among the main demands are conducting an ecological assessment and a hydrological survey of the lake’s condition, implementing measures to maintain the water balance, and preventing the complete drying up of the water body.

The public also proposes granting the lake the status of a nature reserve or creating a local park with continuous monitoring of the water body’s condition by specialized services. Additionally, residents insist on banning all actions that could lead to further destruction of the lake, including filling in or developing the area.
