Kyiv City Council Postpones Consideration of School Director Competition Issues

The issue of holding competitions for the positions of school directors in Kyiv has been postponed to the next session of the city council.

During the plenary session, the Kyiv City Council was unable to make a decision on the restoration of the competitive procedure for selecting leaders of capital schools. The project received only 48 votes, which was insufficient for its adoption.

Discussions on the Necessity of Competitions

Some deputies suggested returning to the vote, arguing for the importance of implementing a transparent system for appointing directors. In particular, Vadym Vasyliuk, a representative of the “Holos” faction, reminded that the Kyiv City Council has been trying to restore competitions for leadership positions in educational institutions for a year. He expressed outrage that the idea of changing personnel in schools has unexpectedly become controversial.

“For some reason, there are different interpretations of simple things: that competitions are somehow bad, and changing positions is bad. I do not understand how it has come to this, that we suddenly turned this upside down, and the procedure we fought for, which allowed us to introduce personnel changes in education, is something we now do not want to restore,” he said.

Resolution of the Issue is Postponed

The head of the regulatory committee, Leonid Yemets, explained that this issue has already been considered for the second time, so it can only be returned to the agenda during the next session of the city council. Thus, the final decision regarding the restoration of competitions for the positions of directors of educational institutions in Kyiv will be considered later.
