Residents of Kyiv have once again appealed to the city authorities with a persistent request to address the issue of uninterrupted operation of traffic lights in the capital.

Petition from Citizens and Reasons for the Appeal
For the second time this year, the capital’s residents have initiated an electronic petition on the Kyiv City Council’s website, urging responsible officials to promptly take measures to provide Kyiv’s traffic lights with autonomous power sources. As the authors of the petition explain, during planned or emergency power outages, the traffic management system, including traffic lights, stops functioning. This leads to chaotic situations on the roads and results in an increase in the number of traffic accidents.
“The signatories emphasize: for continuous traffic management and proper control of the transportation flow, every traffic light in Kyiv must be equipped with an automatic switch to an uninterruptible power supply in case of power outages.”
Previous Actions by Authorities and Relevance of the Issue
In January of this year, the leadership of the Kyiv City Military Administration had already instructed the relevant services of the capital to increase the number of special cabinets that allow for the uninterrupted power supply of traffic lights regardless of the electricity supply situation. However, as noted by Kyiv residents, previous appeals and decisions have not led to significant changes, so the issue remains extremely relevant for the city.
