The Need for Safe Infrastructure for Animals
Residents of Kyiv have appealed to the city authorities to create specialized dog walking areas in residential courtyards. The relevant electronic petition is already available on the official website of the Kyiv City Council.
As the initiative’s authors explain, the capital is currently experiencing a severe shortage of designated spaces for the free walking of pets, especially areas suitable for training and physical activity for dogs.
Benefits for Residents and Their Four-Legged Friends
Signatories point out that the lack of such areas often leads to conflicts between pet owners and residents who do not have dogs. Additionally, walking in unsuitable locations or near roadways poses risks for the animals themselves.
The initiators emphasize that to ensure safety and comfort, a comprehensive infrastructure for dog walking and training needs to be created. Specifically, it is proposed to establish fenced areas with safe surfaces, separate zones for different breeds and sizes of dogs, training elements (barriers, tunnels, slides), benches for resting, bins and containers for waste collection, as well as lighting and informational stands with usage rules.
“This will not only promote responsible attitudes towards animals but also enhance the culture of walking and safety in the city,” residents of the capital are confident.
