Historical cobblestones discovered in the capital during road works
This is reported by Kyiv24
During repair work in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, workers uncovered ancient cobblestones that were made as far back as the early 20th century. The find was made at the intersection of Hlibovytska and Sichovykh Striltsiv streets.
Discovery during reconstruction
Heritage protector Dmytro Perov reported the discovery of the cobblestones on his social media page. According to him, authentic cobblestones could still be seen in this location back in the 1980s. However, unlike most streets in Kyiv where the old pavement was dismantled, asphalt was laid over it here, preserving the historical layer.
Historical significance for the city
The discovery of early 20th-century cobblestones is an important event for the city’s cultural heritage. This find allows for a deeper exploration of the development of urban infrastructure and helps preserve elements of the past for future generations.
“Road cobblestones from the early 20th century were discovered at the intersection of Hlibovytska and Sichovykh Striltsiv streets,” wrote Dmytro Perov.
