Investigation Results and Expert Findings

Law enforcement officials have determined that Yuriy Makarov inflicted his own injuries. According to experts, all DNA samples extracted from the evidence belong solely to the victim. A forensic psychiatric examination has also been completed, which established the journalist’s psychological state at the time of the incident.

Circumstances of the Incident and Police Actions

According to earlier media reports, on the evening of April 16, there were reports of an attack on Yuriy Makarov, the executive producer of “Public Broadcasting” and a well-known journalist. He was hospitalized in serious condition with stab wounds, and the police opened a criminal investigation. The public urged the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to take personal control of the investigation.

“Law enforcement officials thoroughly analyzed all video recordings from surveillance cameras, interviewed dozens of potential witnesses, and conducted a forensic experiment: at the time of the injuries, there were no third parties present near the complainant.”

During the investigation, the police seized a possible weapon—a knife and a sheath—that were found near the scene of the incident and sent for examination. The findings of the expert analysis confirmed that the DNA on the evidence belongs solely to Makarov. A comprehensive forensic psychological and psychiatric examination indicated that at the time of the injuries, the man was in a state of acute stress reaction, which may have affected his behavior. The victim agreed with the experts’ conclusions. After establishing all the circumstances, the case was closed.
