Recovery After the Accident: The Historic Building of Anna Borodkova is Once Again Open for Traffic

This is reported by Kyiv24

In the Shevchenkivskyi District of Kyiv, restoration work has been completed on the historic building of Anna Borodkova, constructed in 1889. The building was damaged earlier this year due to a heating network rupture, which resulted in the destruction of supporting ceilings, damage to the brickwork of the first floor, and the archway with the passage.

Details of the Accident and the Progress of Repair Work

According to heritage conservationist Dmytro Perov, the incident occurred on January 9 on Petliura Street. Two historic buildings — those numbered 21 and 23 — were affected by the accident. The destruction impacted not only the supporting structures but also the brick walls of the first floor. Subsequently, due to the lack of urgent emergency measures, the second floor of building No. 23 began to collapse: window frames were left hanging in the air.

Experts who inspected the sites after the accident did not provide positive forecasts regarding their future. In some cases, it was even suggested to dismantle part of building No. 23 in order to save the neighboring historic monument from 1901, which belonged to Fedor Horyachka.

A Successful Engineering Solution Preserved Architectural Heritage

“Fortunately, by using a complex engineering solution, both historic buildings were preserved, and the damaged part was restored,” noted the activist.

Thus, thanks to the efforts of municipal services and specialists in the field of restoration, it was possible not only to preserve the architectural value of the two buildings but also to restore lost elements, including the arch and passage, which are of significant importance for the urban infrastructure and historical appearance of the district.
