On Memorial Day, soldiers, veterans, and relatives of the fallen and missing Ukrainian defenders gathered at the memorial for marines in Kyiv. Attendees laid flowers and honored the fallen with a moment of silence, demonstrating unity and gratitude for the heroism of the marines.
Posthumous Awards and Words of Remembrance
The event was organized by the Union of Veterans of the Ukrainian Marines. During the ceremony, state honors were presented to the families of the fallen, emphasizing the significance of their bravery and sacrifice for the country.
“Before the full-scale invasion, there were 111 fallen marines since 2014. Now, unfortunately, there are more than three thousand,” said the head of the union, Yuriy Holodov.
Honoring Traditions of the Marine Corps
The conclusion of the memorial event was marked by an ancient tradition of the marines: participants launched wreaths into the water from a boat, symbolically honoring the memory of each hero who gave their life for Ukraine.
