European Commission: There are no debates regarding the limitation of temporary protection for Ukrainian men

У Єврокомісії розповіли, чи є дебати про обмеження захисту в ЄС для українських чоловіків

The European Commission has confirmed that temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens in EU countries will remain in effect until 2027. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammerth during a briefing in Brussels, emphasizing the absence of information regarding possible debates on restricting this policy specifically for Ukrainian men of conscription age.

Temporary protection for Ukrainians extended to 2027

According to Lammerth, the decision to grant temporary protection to Ukrainian citizens was made at the level of the European Union and member states and will be in effect at least until March 2027. Thus, all rules governing this status will remain stable during the specified period.

“I am not aware of any debates in Luxembourg. I can say that temporary protection is something we decided at the EU level and at the level of member states until 2027,” he said in response to a question about whether debates are ongoing at the EU level regarding the possibility of canceling temporary protection for Ukrainian men of conscription age.

Discussions in Luxembourg regarding Ukrainian men

At the same time, separate discussions are ongoing in Luxembourg regarding the presence of Ukrainian men in the country. Luxembourg’s Minister of Defense Yuriko Backes supported the position of Interior Minister Jean Gloden, stating that men from Ukraine who are subject to mobilization should return to their country to participate in defense.

Backes noted that previously, mostly women and children were arriving in Luxembourg, but recently there has been an increase in the number of men. According to her, this trend raises concerns as the country provides military assistance to Ukraine while simultaneously accepting young men from that state.
