Rising temperatures in summer can turn a pet left in a car into a victim of deadly danger.

The Kyiv City State Administration has urged pet owners not to leave their beloved animals in locked cars during hot weather. This can have fatal consequences for the life and health of the animal even during a brief absence of the owner.

What Makes Heat Dangerous for Pets in Cars

“Even in the shade, the temperature inside a car rises rapidly. This can lead to overheating, dehydration, or even death of the animal,” the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reminds us.

Most pets regulate their body temperature through rapid breathing. However, in the confined and stuffy space of a heated car, these mechanisms become ineffective, resulting in dangerous overheating. Even a few minutes in a hot car can have severe health consequences and even lead to the death of a beloved pet.

Responsibility for Pet Owners

The administration emphasized that leaving animals in locked cars during heat is subject to administrative and criminal liability. In particular, offenders face:

  • fines ranging from 3,400 to 5,950 hryvnias;
  • in severe cases – restriction or deprivation of liberty for up to 3 years;
  • possible confiscation of the animal.

Kyiv residents are urged to be responsible pet owners and not to expose their pets to deadly danger.
