Features of the Exhibition and the Work of Ivan Marchuk

Ivan Marchuk is a People’s Artist of Ukraine, a laureate of the Shevchenko Prize, and the creator of the original technique known as “plontanism,” which is recognized and appreciated in many countries around the world. His paintings are distinguished by their philosophical depth, virtuoso technique, and sincere love for Ukraine. These qualities have formed the basis for the exhibition in the capital.

The exhibition titled “Ivan Marchuk. Awakening” presents three key artistic cycles of the artist: “The Voice of My Soul,” “Landscape,” and “Blooming.” In each of these, viewers will be able to feel the special thrill with which Marchuk conveys feelings of love for his homeland, memories of Ukrainian traditions, a sense of home, and longing for what has been lost. The organizers have ensured that each cycle has its own design, allowing for a deeper immersion into the themes of the paintings and a journey of personal spiritual awakening alongside the author.

Unique Works and Symbolism of the Exhibition

The climax of the exhibition will be the work “Awakening,” which Ivan Marchuk painted in New York during his emigration. This painting symbolizes a personal act of light and hope during a difficult period in the artist’s life. Now, as Ukraine gains new strength, the canvas takes on even greater symbolic significance.

“The art of Ivan Marchuk harmoniously combines philosophical depth, technical mastery, and boundless love for his native land.”

Nine museums from various regions of Ukraine and 19 private collectors participated in the creation of the exhibition. Thanks to this collaboration, the exhibition will showcase not only well-known works by Marchuk but also pieces that have never before been exhibited to the general public.

The exhibition will be open from August 6 at the address: Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street, 7, in the very center of Kyiv.
