European leaders are planning to organize a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington ahead of negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled for August 18. Preparatory Meeting in Washington
According to the published schedule, Ursula von der Leyen plans to hold a preparatory meeting in the U.S. capital with Volodymyr Zelensky and leading leaders of the European Union. However, the full list of participants in this meeting, as well as the exact time it will take place, has not yet been announced.
Zelensky’s Meeting with Trump and Security Issues
Volodymyr Zelensky has already arrived in Washington, as he announced at dawn according to Kyiv time. On August 18, the Ukrainian president, with the support of key European allies, plans to meet with Donald Trump to discuss further cooperation. One of the main topics for the Ukrainian side will be security guarantees from the U.S. in the event of further aggression from Russia.
Zelensky previously stated that one of the key points on his agenda is securing reliable security guarantees from the U.S. leader against further Russian aggression.
It is worth noting that on August 15, a meeting took place in Alaska between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, during which the issue of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine was also discussed. However, no specific agreements were announced as a result of these negotiations.
