Mark Rutte Addresses the Verkhovna Rada During a Massive Shelling of Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte made an official visit to Kyiv on February 3, where he addressed the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. His speech took place against the backdrop of yet another massive attack by the Russian Federation, which affected the capital and several other regions of the country.

Commemoration of Fallen Defenders

Before beginning his speech in parliament, Mark Rutte, together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, participated in a ceremony honoring Ukrainian soldiers who lost their lives during the war. The event took place at the People’s Memorial of National Remembrance, located in Independence Square in Kyiv.

Massive Missile Strike and Its Consequences

On the day of the NATO Secretary General’s visit, Russia launched another major attack on Ukraine, during which, according to the State Emergency Service, nine people were injured, five of them in Kyiv. According to the Air Force, the aggressor used over five hundred missiles and drones. Hits were recorded at 27 different sites, with the main areas of attack being Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions.

This time, the primary target of the aggressor was the country’s energy infrastructure. The shelling occurred ahead of trilateral negotiations scheduled for February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi, involving Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. The main goal of the meeting is to find ways to cease hostilities.
