As a result of the nighttime and morning massive attack by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, as of this morning, electricity supply has been almost completely cut off in Rivne, Ternopil, and Khmelnytskyi regions. This was reported by Acting Minister of Energy Artem Nekrasov during a briefing.

Extent of Damage and Recovery Progress
As a result of the ninth large-scale attack since the beginning of the year, the Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions have also been affected — there have been recorded power outages caused by shelling. In Odesa region, energy workers are addressing the aftermath of several massive strikes, and a significant portion of consumers remains without electricity for now. Emergency recovery work will begin as soon as the security situation allows.
Currently, emergency power outage schedules are in effect across the country. Previously published hourly outage schedules are temporarily not being applied. Restoration of electricity supply will occur immediately after the situation in the energy system stabilizes. Information about the timing of outages can be found on the official pages of the regional energy companies.

Government Response to the Energy Crisis
The massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure occurred just before Christmas, highlighting the deliberate nature of the actions of the Russian Federation. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need to strengthen international pressure on the aggressor and support Ukraine in the fields of energy and defense on his social media.
“This Russian strike clearly signals Russia’s priorities. The strike before Christmas, when people want to be with their loved ones, at home, and safe. The strike comes at the height of negotiations aimed at ending this war. Putin cannot accept that it is time to stop killing. And this means that the world is not putting enough pressure on Russia. We must respond now. We need to push Russia towards peace and guaranteed security. We must not forget that every day – both weekdays and holidays – Ukraine is protecting people’s lives. Air defense for Ukraine, funding for the purchase of weapons, supply of energy equipment – all these processes do not take weekends off. We must be committed to protecting lives to finally achieve peace.”
Ukrainian energy workers continue to operate under extremely difficult conditions to restore electricity supply to citizens as quickly as possible. The authorities urge the population to follow official information and remain calm until the energy system is fully restored.
