On August 3, the country celebrates the Day of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — a holiday for those who stand guard over the nation’s airspace every day and combat missile and drone attacks from the Russian Federation.
Greetings from the President and Public Gratitude to the Military
President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated all servicemen of the Air Forces, thanking each one who participates in defending the Ukrainian sky and repelling enemy strikes. The head of state highlighted the contributions of pilots, engineers, technical personnel, air defense troops, as well as those who train and support the combat readiness of the units. Words of gratitude and remembrance were expressed for the fallen defenders who remain in formation forever.
“Today is the Day of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A day of gratitude to everyone who repels Russian attacks, destroys enemy planes, missiles, and drones. Strikes at the front from the air. To all who fight against Russian terror day and night. Thank you to the pilots, engineers, technical staff, air defense troops, everyone who trains, and all who assist. To our people who demonstrate results in defending Ukraine. Eternal glory and memory to all our warriors who did not return from missions and perished defending lives. Glory to our Air Forces! Glory to Ukraine,” he wrote on social media.
Unveiling of the Memorial Sign under the Arch of Freedom
On the eve of the holiday, a memorial sign was ceremoniously unveiled under the Arch of Freedom in Kyiv in honor of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the highest military leadership, the command of the Air Forces, Heroes of Ukraine, members of military associations, servicemen from various units, veterans, the public, and clergy.
The memorial sign has become a symbol of deep gratitude not only to pilots but also to air defense, missile, and radio-technical troops, as well as to all who ensure the functioning of the Air Forces. The location of the unveiling was not chosen by chance — it serves as a reminder of the significant contribution of every defender of the sky to the modern history of the state.
“The memorial sign has become a symbol of gratitude from the entire society to the warriors of the sky – aviation, air defense, missile, and radio-technical troops, units of comprehensive support, those at combat posts, and those who are forever in formation. This is a place of memory, pride, and deep respect for the combat path of everyone who has linked their life to the defense of their native sky, a path that is inscribed in the history of modern Ukrainian statehood,” stated the command of the Air Forces.
