A specialized pyrotechnic unit of the State Emergency Service has been established in Kyiv, tasked with neutralizing explosive devices left after missile and artillery strikes on the capital.

This is reported by Kyiv24

The newly created group for pyrotechnic work, underwater, and humanitarian demining addresses safety issues in Kyiv and the surrounding water bodies, where dangerous items may remain after shelling by the Russian Federation. Special attention is given to surveying the waters of the Dnipro River and other bodies of water in the city.

Preparation and Equipment of the New Unit

The personnel of the unit have undergone specialized training and are equipped with the necessary tools, including modern equipment for underwater operations. The State Emergency Service emphasizes that rescuers continuously improve their professional skills by practicing various response scenarios for potential emergencies.

Practical training covers both the search for explosive devices in water and humanitarian demining of contaminated areas. Special focus is placed on the removal of complex types of mines that may pose a threat to the civilian population.

Training Scenarios and Humanitarian Demining

“For example, one of the training exercises involved searching for a so-called drop – a training hand grenade in the waters of the Dnipro River. In another scenario, the sapper teams practiced humanitarian demining of a ‘contaminated’ training area and the removal of an anti-personnel bouncing fragmentation mine using specialized equipment and tools,” the State Emergency Service reported.

The presence of such a unit in the capital contributes to increasing the safety level for Kyiv residents and ensures rapid response to cases of explosive devices being discovered after Russian attacks. Thanks to daily training, the sapper teams are prepared to tackle the most complex tasks, helping to minimize risks for people and the city’s infrastructure.
