North Korea Officially Confirms Its Military’s Participation in the War Against Ukraine

КНДР офіційно підтвердила участь своїх збройних сил у війні проти України

The Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea has officially confirmed the participation of North Korean army units in combat operations against Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia.

This is reported by Kyiv24

«Units of our armed forces that participated in the operation to liberate the Kursk region at the order of the head of North Korea… made an important contribution to the liberation of the territory of the Russian Federation from Ukrainian forces»

A statement released by the official news agency KCNA notes that North Korean military personnel went to war under a mutual defense treaty between Russia and North Korea, signed in June 2024. North Korea claims that its military acted exclusively on Russian territory, and this “fully complies with the provisions of the UN Charter and other international treaties”.

According to official sources, a monument is soon to be erected in the northern capital to commemorate the participation of North Korean soldiers in the war on the side of Russia.

Official Confirmation of North Korean Military Participation

Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov stated during a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 26 that soldiers from North Korea acted «shoulder to shoulder» with Russian troops in Kursk. This was the first official confirmation of the participation of North Korean military forces in the war against Ukraine.
